Why is Jericho unique? The oldest known city in the World (10,000 years BC). It is very rich in historical and religious sites. Jericho is also the lowest city in altitude on earth some 800 feet below sea level. Its location has very important strategy, it is the eastern gate which connects the Palestinian cities with Jordan through the King Hussein Bridge. Road traffic from Jerusalem and other cities in the Holy Land converges in Jericho, and roads continue south to the Dead Sea and the Negev. It is hot in summer for those who like hot weather, and warm and pleasant in winter. The fertile land of Jericho and lovely dates, citrus fruits and bananas in the world. In 1993 Jericho was chosen as the starting point for Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank under the provisions of agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
