The Industrial Sector:
In light of the increasing concerns of both the private and public industrial sectors, a body was formed; it was called the Jordan Valley Development Committee hopefully to concentrate on investment in the industrial field so as to back up the economy of the Ghour Areas in the Jordan Valley; a subcommittee emerged aiming at establishing an industrial zone in Jericho with all required facilities ( electricity, water, telephone services ) to encourage the industrial investment in the Governorate and to make use of the investment qualities in the area, such as the agricultural crops of high quality, the livestock, the abundance of cheap land, the availability of water and the skillful labourers and the strategic location of the city, all of which are considered encouraging factors to build up agricultural factories.
The industrial sector forms 14.45% of the other industrial sectors in the Jericho Governorate. However, there are small sized industrial projects, for instance, sewing workshops, coolers and conditions accumulation, plastic box factory, aluminium forming workshops. In the aftermath of the Palestinian National Authority, a number of medium sized industrial projects were inaugurated, such as iron melting and restructuring factory, two medicinal and mineral water factories, car batteries factory and meat factory.
