The Commercial Sector in Jericho:
The commercial sector in Jericho forms 58.96% of the registered members in the Chamber. The commercial sector grew considerably recently , the shops and store increased 10% in 1998 as a result of setting up a number of new vital tourism projects in the Governorate. There are lots of stores for food and drinks wholesale and retail selling, a large number of wholesale shops of fruit and vegetables are available. There are also stores that sell agricultural tools and machines , souvenirs, gifts, recreational items, building and construction materials, car spare parts, electric objects, jewelry and so forth.
This sector suffers from moving freely, the goods require permits. The Palestinian goods entry to the Israeli market is allowed in order to cover the shortage in it. The closure of the Palestinian territories from time to time hinders trade treatments and confuses the merchants.
It is hoped that the final status negotiations can solve such problems soon so that peace can be really felt in terms of its results and fruits.
