HISTORY
The Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established in 1954. It was administered by a select group of senior businessmen at that time.
They were:
- The late Abdul-Mute Herbawi (Chairman) and the following members:
- Hajj Suleiman An-Natsheh
- Hajj Kathem Hasouneh
- Hajj Mahmoud Ad-Dweik
- Hajj Fayyadh Al-‘Uweiwy
- Late Hajj Mohammed Yousef Baly
- Hajj Abdul-Jabbar Abu-Munshar
(Note: Hajj is an honorific title of one who has performed the pilgrimage of Mecca.)

In 1957 the first elections were revived and the above members were elected.
The following members were added:
- Hajj Rushdi Baly
- Hajj As’ad Mohammad Shawar
- Hajj Issa Saleh Abdul-Nabi
- Hajj Hajj Ayyoub Al-Juneidi
- Hajj Sa’id Zeitoun
- Hajj Ibrahim Rashed Maraqa
- Mr. Nabil Al-Karaki
- Abdul-Hamid Shawar

After the demise of the chairman, Hajj Ahmad Al-‘Uweiwy became chairman and stayed in that position until 18 June, 1991, when the first elections of the Chamber of Commerce were held during the period of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Similar elections were also held at all the other Chambers of Commerce in the West Bank and the Gaza
Strip.
